Setting Up the Guest Room

The Bed-

  1. Did you know I actually travel with my pillow? It’s a necessity! So having a couple of different pillow types isn’t necessary but it sure is a thoughtful touch.
  2. Use a comforter and duvet cover. It’s easier to wash and keeps the comforter clean.
  3. Step stool for extra high beds
  4. Have extra blankets for those who get cold easily and a ceiling or table top fan for those who are always warm.

The Nightstand-

  1. A lamp that is easily turned on or off while in bed. And, bright enough to read by.
  2. Nice extras: water bottle, notepad and pen, small clock, a photograph that is meaningful to your guest.

The place for Suitcases and hanging Clothes-

  1. Suitcase stand or valet is perfect for keeping suitcases off the floor and the bed.
  2. If you have a large armoire or cabinet, hanging a closet rod or some hooks is an easy fix.
  3. Sturdy hangers

The Bathroom-

  1. Clean out and organize all bathroom drawers
  2. Add Towels, washcloths, and hand towels
  3. Beach towels for warm weather’s water related activities
  4. Extra toothbrush and toothpaste
  5. Hand soap by the sink in a pretty dispenser looks nice and is economical.
  6. Sample sizes of shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors
  7. Nice extras- Candles for optional fragrance, bathrobes, small magnifying mirror, live plants, a shower head water filter

A place to sit-

  1. If you have room, a comfy chair and small table are always appreciated for checking email or catching up on work.
  2. More photos (one of my friends has the photo switch-a-roo down to a science, and always puts out meaningful framed photos for each guest)

Making it special for kids-

  1. Fill up a corner of the guest room for the kids. Use some cute baskets and add some age-appropriate books, puppets, and toys.
  2. Check ahead of time and see what the parents might need for the kids. My grandchild needed a porta crib, bedding, bath tub seat, and a playmat because I have travertine floors in the guestroom.
  3. Step stool to reach the sink.
  4. Add outlet protectors and cabinet locks if needed.
  5. Did you know you can rent baby stuff? I just found this out.
